Woolgathering
(In Progress)
Woolgathering: indulgence in aimless thought or dreamy imagining; absent-mindedness.
Woolgathering follows my thoughts, emotions and personal experiences of the past two years. The melancholic wistfulness of the work is a deeper reflection of self. Taking my daydreams and turning them into art so as to better express and understand them, the creation of this work has been a cathartic experience. The work looks at themes like imposter syndrome and the breakdown of relationships as well as self-identity and doubt. Intimate and vulnerable, it is a journey of self-discovery to find myself as both artist and person, based on my desire to be understood by myself and others. Literature, art and music are at the heart of this work.
Creating this work has been an act of self service, but I hope those who see the work can relate to it and take peace from the fact they are not alone. To the dreamers, the insecure artists, those who always feel out of place and those who see and feel things deeply, this is for you.
“You read something which you thought only happened to you, and you discover that it happened 100 years ago to Dostoyevsky. This is a very great liberation for the suffering, struggling person who always thinks that he is alone. This is why art is important. Art would not be important if life were not important, and life is important.”
